STAR Thermoplastics Division of STAR Thermoplastic Alloys & Rubbers, Inc., announces a major expansion at their headquarters and production facilities. Company officials note that this is in response to increased demand for the firm's TPE compounds. Specifically, STAR is expanding into 12,000 more square feet in their current 4-story facility and in doing so, will be able to expand their production capacity from 12 million lbs/yr to 16 million lbs/year. They will be fully operational under the new expansion by March of 2003. The expansion includes streamlining of the STAR production line to eliminate bottlenecks and decrease production and shipping times, the hiring of 2 new personnel to run the new production equipment, the addition of four injection molding machines and the expansion of the compounder's research and laboratory facilities. The presses added include a 75-ton unit, 2 - 50 ton presses and 1 additional 40-ton injection molding machine. According to Tom Dieschbourg, President of STAR, "Our timing is to have everything operational in plenty of time for increased business before and right after NPE. Our proximity to the NPE show site, just 6 blocks from McCormick place, will enable prospects and customers to see for themselves the diversity of our product line and production capacity". STAR Thermoplastic Elastomers supplies TPEs to the appliance, automotive, construction, electrical, hardware, housewares, industrial, medical, packaging, sporting goods and manufacturing industries among others. STAR currently offers diverse product lines including specialty TPEs for medical and high clarity applications, fire retardant TPEs, high performance, super soft, and overmolding applications. The firm has extensive warehouse capabilities, and offers stock and JIT programs. |
